HeartLight Center, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2001, provides affordable grief support and education for adults who are experiencing the pain and sorrow following the death of a loved one. This facility, which was constructed on the site of Horan & McConaty, was designed specifically to serve the needs of this independent organization. The initial concept of the client was to create a building of residential scale and character to generate a serene and homey feeling for its users.
The main level is a large, open space with a fireplace, octagonal library meeting nook, kitchen and restrooms. The second floor is dedicated to office space for the staff that manages the HeartLight Center. As an adjunct use, there is an attached garage space for use in storing funeral service vehicles. The residential style garage doors add to the overall image of the building.
